Question for you guys in the U.S.

Where is a good place for tv's. I see such a big difference in prices between best buy and circuit city for very similar tv's. Going to be heading down to Grand Forks first week in December to do some shopping and thinking of picking up a 42" lcd for the den. Won't be doing anything other than watching tv and the odd movie. I probably won't even hook up surround sound or anything to it either ( I watch movies on my big lcd in the basement) but I want 1080dpi still. Anyone have suggestions on places with the best prices/value? (not concered about the make either, not looking for only brand names like sony etc.)

The Westinghouse 1080i (possibly p) from Best Buy is a HUGE deal when it is on sale. The normal price on this set is already low and the overall quality is great. Most afficienado sites will tell you that if you can't spend the 2-3k for the over the top LCD's to pick up the Westinghouse 42" since it's "damn good." It's currently playing in the Living room at the moment and it is a great television with most of the options currently out there.

Edit : Best buy's web site no longer lists the larger Westinghouse LCD's.

How bout the same TV but bigger and same price?

I have a 46" Sony Bravia LCD, 1080p 120Hz refresh rate and I love it. We paid a bit more (this was last February), but we got 0% financing from Sony for one year. We were prepared to shell out right on the spot, but with 0% who's going to pay cash

We bought ours from Ultimate electronics. If you're looking at the "normal" brands, you really aren't going to see a big price differential at the normal stores. If you have access to a Costco, though, some good deals can be had there. I might be picking up another 42" for my gaming rig That's if the resolution works though, I need to hook up to my Sony sometime and see what it looks like

I personally stay away from ebay for expensive electronics. If something goes bad, you just lost a shit load of money. I never buy those "plans", but I did for our TV because if something does happen, you're out a lot of cash and big electronics aren't always the best bet. If you find one cheap enough on ebay, though, that shoots my policy out of the water

Yeah I understand what you mean. I felt the same way until I saw this one. I haven't had any problems with glare and it has built in burn in protection and a clearer/crisper picture than any LCD I've ever seen.

The plasmas of today are much better than the earlier models. That said, though, we were pretty sure we'd have trouble with glare as the room where the tv goes catches evening sun, so we went with an LCD to be safe.
